Kane'd, Dirty Wink & Beyond The Break live 18/09/15

A good crowd filled the Masons last Friday to see touring bands, Kane’d and Dirty Wink play the penultimate gig of the UK leg of their tour. Opening the night for them were local boys, Beyond the Break. Since I saw their debut gig in June the boys have played many more gigs including at the Crystal Club in Wembley as part of the Foo Fighters fan club gig before the Foo Fighters Wembley gig (famously cancelled when Dave Grohl broke his leg at a gig in Sweden) and have had their songs played on many radio stations. The boys have a very professional outlook without ever losing their sense of fun on stage. *As a gigging guitarist myself, I know that the usual time to tune your guitar is during the bridge of a song when you realise that you’re out of tune or you stop the next song during the intro of the next song during the intro when you remember you need tuning. That’s why I was particularly impressed that the band had their set time to stop between songs and all tune together.* Their single, the way it was, is a particularly catchy song that became a earworm for me right up until the point I saw Wheatus Performing Teenage Dirtbag in Swansea on Saturday night. Second band on were Austrian pop-punk band, Dirty Wink. These boys looked as if they were thoroughly enjoying their tour, declaring how awesome they thought everything was, after each song. Headlining the night was Swansea band Kane’d. The band were fronted by three sisters, whose harmonies really impressed. The band’s sound and look are quite 1980s glam and if you didn’t know any better, you could have sworn you were watching Vixen at Nottingham Rock City. Although saying that, nothing of the gig seemed dated and the band would easily fit in with any current rock show. The gig wasn’t just about the girls, with some great musicianship throughout, featuring some impressive guitar solos. It wasn't until a couple of days after the gig that I realised that I had seen the guitarist on Sky Arts' guitar star, where he got to the final six rock guitarists. The bands were all lovely people as well, staying behind to chat with the audience, no matter how drunk they were by then. They even had the majority of the crowd on stage with them after the show, for a group photo. Kane’d and Dirty Wink were finishing the UK leg of their tour in Cardiff on Saturday before heading off to Austria and I look forward to seeing what they have planned for the future.
