Saturday 13th September 2025 saw live music return to The Masons Arms Llanelli with the fantastic, “The Wurlitzers.”

The surprise event was advertised on social media as a free event, and was only confirmed, just a few days before taking place.

Historically the Masons was known for its promotion of mainly alternative live music. The Wurlitzers provide something very different, in that they are an experienced and sought after wedding band who have also performed at a plethora of live events up and down the UK. These include performing for Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas as well as sharing the stage with Gareth Gates, Paddy McGuiness and Only Men Allowed.

So how did such a band come to be playing a free event at The Masons Arms Llanelli, I hear you ask?!!! Well, what makes this really special, is that The Wurlitzers is fronted by the Masons landlord Kristen Smith. So for the second time this year, The Wurlitzers decided to put on a show for pub regulars and welcome veterans of seeing the band.

Personally, I missed the last show over May bank holiday as I was at Slam Dunk Festival, but I was so happy to be in attendance for this last minute September gig.

Performing alongside Kristen, on guitar and vocals was the very talented guitarist/vocalist, Daz Schmeyz and on drums the brilliant Aled Richard, internationally known as the drummer of Catatonia and your local music tech lecturer in Coleg Sir Gar.

This was my first time seeing this trio that together make up The Wurlitzers and with the great music credentials of the members combined, this was sure to be an interesting show.

From the outside, The Wurlitzers provided majestic entertainment throwing themselves into their set performing songs including Aha’s Take on Me , Robbie Williams, Let Me Entertain You, as well as Hound Dog originally performed by Elvis, through to Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now. All these were performed alongside a catalogue of other big tunes from across the decades that got people dancing, singing along, and the room smiling. The crowd was bouncing and the applause huge, and everyone appeared captivated by Kristen’s magnetic and energetic frontman performance.

With all the negatively and bad news in the world, a night with The Wurlitzers is just the tonic, and definitely what a great Saturday night out should be like.

Thank you for a great night to Kristen, Daz and Aled.

The Wurlitzers said they plan to return to The Masons Arms for Christmas 2025!! Here’s hoping for another happy night of music and joy coming up! I can’t wait already!

You can check out The Wurlitzers on their website: www. Wurlitzers.co.uk and all main social media platforms. They are available for weddings and other event bookings now.
