The MLC & Heavy Flames live at The Masons Arms 16/10/15

I always remark how privileged we are to have such top quality bands playing in Llanelli, for free, every week and this week was no exception. The first band of the weekend were The MLC (Mid-Life Crisis) from Bridgend playing a traditional brand of pub-punk. The boys are always fun and always get the crowd up and dancing by the end of their set. Talking to the band after they had finished, they told me some horror stories about venues they had played. One that stood out was a gig in Wigan when they traveled all the way up to find out that the only people in the audience were another band playing that night and they weren’t even paid the expenses they had been promised. This is why they told me they always love coming to the Masons, for the professional sound, friendly locals and great organisation of the gigs.

Headlining Friday night were Heavy Flames. Again, this band goes to show what talent we have playing in this town. As a guitarist myself, I tend to concentrate on the guitarist and I was very impressed by the style and the sound, I always like the contrast of a crisp clean lead over the top of a dirty distorted backing. Kris, the landlord, being a vocalist himself, was concentrating on the vocals and he commentated how much he was impressed by the range and different styles of singing from vocalist David Hill.
