Who are Discount Columbo ?
Discount Columbo are a Bristol based four-piece consisting of Jake Sheppard (Vocals/Rhythm Guitar), Connor Llewellyn (Bass/Welsh), Harry Martin (Lead Guitar) and Matt West (Drums)
How long have you been together ?
The band formed in January 2015 and released their debut EP 'Take As Much Time' exactly a year later.
How would you describe your music?
Our music is uplifting, groove heavy britpop reminiscent of Oasis and The Beatles.
What are the best and worst things about being in a band?
The best thing about being in a band is the feeling when coming off stage having really nailed it. The downside is lugging gear to and from gigs and the twisted stories uncovered during these journeys that make you wonder why these people are still your friends.
Do you have any memorable gig stories, good or bad?
Our most memorable experience has to go to Wales. Supporting a Guns 'n' Roses tribute act, the UKIP flag blazoned across the next door neighbours house should have been warning enough that we were in for an experience. In true Guns 'n' Roses fashion the 'Axl' pushed one 'under the influence', mullet possessing, 80's thrill seeker off stage causing a drinks spillage that in turn concluded with two lost audience members and by the end of the night, a lost girlfriend. Just one highlight from a very eventful Welsh evening. We still haven't figured out if we experienced a tragedy of an evening or an extremely accomplished Guns 'n' Roses impression.
Why did you choose Llanelli to play ?
Word had got around our camp that The Masons Arms in Llanelli was a great place to play. For word to have spread all the way to Bristol just goes to show the quality of the scene Llanelli is experiencing right now. We definitely got a good taste for it and are eager for more!
What plans do the band have for the rest of the year?
We are currently recording our second EP 'As You Need' which is actually in post-production right now. We have a single coming out very soon that we hope will help promote the sunshine this summer. We are planning on spending the rest of the year expanding our fan-base as far as we can get our little car to go. Consequently we may end up planning our gig travels via foot by the end of the year.
