In With The Jellyfish & Trackstar/Pornstar

We had Valleys punkers Trackstar/Pornstar and Neath's In with the Jellyfish performing in Llanelli on 29th July. Trackstar/Pornstar are a four piece punk band and although they sometimes touch upon political themes, they don’t take themselves too seriously. The band do like to have a catchy chorus that the crowd can join in with as they demonstrated in songs such as original tunes 'Here Come The Police', 'Adore' and 'Nothing'. The band were joined on stage for the last two songs of their set by pub regular and Trackstar superfan ‘Comedy’ Kieran up on stage to join in with 'Last of the New Wave' and also for their final track, a cover of The Proclaimer’s 500 miles. The band played a mighty fine set with wit, humour and plenty of interaction between themselves and the crowd which made Kieran's night - UP THE PUNX!!

This was the first time I had seen Neath band, In With The Jellyfish and I must say that I was impressed with them from the start. When I arrived at the venue, I thought that the band had been giving out t-shirts such was the contingent of people displaying their support for them but it’s their energy and note perfect playing that they brought such a large following. One criticism that is often leveled at my band is that we haven’t got many catchy choruses but this is not a problem for In With The Jellyfish. The boys don’t just settle for the basic verse-chorus structure but have well crafted songs that build up to the hook, once the crowd has been taken on a musical journey.

The band play a wide range of styles from some quite funky indie rock though to rap-rock and they even threw in an excellent Limp Bizkit cover. They have the sort of songs that can get you up and dancing or whip you into a frenzy so they should go down well at any venue they play. The boys introduced two of their songs as singles available to purchase online but in my opinion every song could be a hit. Speaking to the band after they had played, they were very complimentary about the work we are doing with Llanelli Rock Scene and they seemed genuinely enthusiastic about helping us promote live music in West Wales. Recommended gig buddies: King Goon.
