Fighting Fifth Husky Interview
What's your favourite venue to play live?
Stu (Drums) - My favourite venue has to be the masons. Great local pub to play, with always a decent turn out and good sound.
Foster (Guitar) – The other venue we always go back to is Crowleys in Swansea. Again, there’s a great sound there and we get to meet some new fans and play with some bands that we otherwise would not know.
Do you have any memorable gig stories?
Stu - Playing to a crowd of people through a wall and two wooden doors has to be a first, during our gig in Fuel in Cardiff! Having asked the door man to open the doors to the back room as the gig was about to start, he refused, so a massive bunch of people drinking in the front bar couldn't come through, unless they paid. We didn't really expect the punters to pay at all. We were just happy to play a venue in the capital. Nonetheless we had a great night out afterwards!
Foster – Another interesting empty venue story was when we played in Swansea to a crowd of two people (Barry and Scott). They enjoyed and I prefer to play to two people who are enjoying than to fifty people who are indifferent to the band but it was odd that the amount of people in the band outnumbered the audience.
What can gig goers at the masons expect from this Saturdays forthcoming FFH gig?
Foster – We’re always writing new songs so there’ll be some new tracks that the Masons haven’t heard before as well as some of our older tunes which hopefully will get people up and dancing. We’ve also been working on our banter.
What's your favourite FFH song to play live?
Stu - I love doing Go With The Flow live, providing I can nail it. I also always enjoy playing Kind of Life. (CowBell)
Foster – I always like playing the funkier tunes, God Damn and Rock it, Break it, as I get to dance about a bit more when playing them. I’ve also been really enjoying our newest track, You Women Know, which has a lot of energy behind it.
What plans do the band have for 2017?
Stu - FFH plans for 2017 would hopefully include things such as recording a studio EP/Album. Making our way onto BBC Wales. Finding some random places (pubs and venues) in Wales to Gig. Also would be fun to play at a local festival. Maybe Glastonbury?
Foster – We’ve been planning to record for ages and people are always asking us for a CD so recording has to be a priority. We’re always looking for new venues to play and we’ve started looking further afield so we’ll probably have our first gig outside Wales next year if everything works out.
