World Vs World , Trackstar/Pornstar and Fat Wreck live! 12/11/16
By Trudi Goldsmith
On Saturday evening the Masons were treated to another night of quality live music. Opening the evening were top punkers Trackstar/Pornstar with a set of original tracks including Trumped, Cynicism and Here Come the Police. The band were joined on stage by Masons regular and avid supporter of the Llanelli Rock Scene Kieran Kiely for an entertaining version of The Proclaimers track Five Hundred Miles. Throughout their set the band even had to deal with a drunk lady who stormed the stage on more than one occasion requesting Metallica. Not one to disappoint even when trying to sort a broken guitar string guitarist Mei launched into the intro of a Metallica tune in response to the stage stormer’s request. Great set of punk rock tunes.
Next up and playing their first live gig was new punk cover band Fat Wreck featuring Trackstar/Pornstar bassist Julian Hunt; Damian Harries World Vs World Drummer and Lewis Larkman guitar/vocalist of Sunhawk. The band were joined for some four plus tracks by vibrant frontman David Lee Hughes ( Searching for David,This Trophy Life et al). The band played some storming punk rock covers by Rancid, Against Me, Greenday and Frank Turner to name but a few. Cracking first gig. I cannot wait to see them again at The Masons on Saturday 19th November. If you love your punk rock come and check them out!
Third on with the final act of the night: It was good to see headliners World Vs World back at the Masons. Their musicianship is next to none. This talented three piece performed their set with perfection. Throughout their set the band performed original favourite tracks including Dark Night of the Soul; Beat of The Alfa, Bohemian Groove and a new track which they said they had not played live before.
Calls for an encore were met by vocalist Kirk with an agreement to play one more song- a ‘Script’ track. Not too impressed with the choice of tune, I waited with an open mind to happily hear the band finish up with a different track; their own version of Nirvana’s Negative Creep. Great end to their set and a great end to a brilliant night of live music.
