Q & A with……Tsarbomba Tsarbomba

With Trudi Goldsmith

Who are Tsarbomba Tsarbomba?

We are: Al (guitar/vox), Nik (guitar), Tim (bass/vox) and Dylan on drums.

How would you describe your music?

TsarBomba TsarBomba are 100 megatonnes TNT of post-apocalypic grunge stoner-punk. Tim has coined the phrase, but we're still working out what "post-apocalypic grunge stoner-punk" actually means. Perhaps it will make some sense after the apocalypse.

How long have you been together?

TsarBomba TsarBomba have been together for over 4 years now.

We, individually, have diverse and different influences, which, we think, results in the hotch-potch of material that we write. We all have, at least some input into each song- which is why it's not easy to give our style a definitive "tag".

How did you pick the bands name?

We got our name from the largest atomic weapon ever detonated: Tsar Bomba -king of bombs. 50 megatonnes TNT detonated over the Novaya Zemlya on 30th October, 1961. The bomb was originally designed to be 100 megatonnes TNT, but this caused too high a risk from nuclear fallout so it was reduced to 50megatonnes. We wanted 100megatonnes ... so took the name twice!

Do you have a favourite venue to play live?

We've been gigging in south west wales since we have been together. We've played gigs to only 1 person (who was only there because we dragged her along), and to a single small table (who kept going for a fag leaving the venue completely empty). ... got to start somewhere, right? By now we manage to get fairly regular slots at the Mason's and in Crowley's in Swansea. But we are always looking for new venues to play.

What advice would you give to someone who is looking to form a band?

If I have advice for someone starting a band - do it for the love of it. Making a "success" of it is a one in a million chance. But writing and playing your own music is rewarding and a lot of fun.

Do you have any of your music recorded? If so where can it be accessed?

We have a few demo recordings on SoundCloud:
