Live & Local - World vs. World, The Frights, Fat Wreck

Last Friday 3rd March saw three great live bands performing their first gig of 2017 at The Masons Arms Llanelli!!

Fuelled by a good crowd, Punk Rock three piece band ‘Fat Wreck’ opened the night. The band played a highly received set of cover tunes by artists including Rancid; Greenday; NOFX; Against Me and Frank Turner. New editions to Fat Wreck’s set list on the night included ace covers of Bad Religions’ ‘The Handshake’ and the ‘ Descendents’ song Everything Sux. If I asked gig goer Kieran Kiely what his favourite track of the set was , I think he’d say the Frank Turner cover ‘ Four Simple Words’ as he was busy dancing and singing happily to the tune which was the final track of Fat Wreck’s set.

Next up was surf/goth/punk duo ‘The Frights’ . There is no room for anyone else in this band and they are not needed! The Frights sound is massive and the musicianship of guitarist/ vocalist Marc and the drum skills of Paul are next to none. I love seeing this band live and I am yet to see anyone like them. Playing mostly original tunes in their set; The Frights even manage to make the covers they play totally their own. Standout original tracks included the brilliant Unfortunate Son; Vampire Love; Queen of Harm and Bullet to name but a few!

Headlining the night in a venue that they have frequented, gig-wise, countless times over the last ten years, alternative rock band, World Vs World hit the stage just after 10pm. World Vs World are another band who I enjoy seeing live. This talented trio of musicians always give their all to their music during their live sets and tonight was no different. World Vs World played numerous tracks from their back catalogue of original tunes as well as playing a great new track early in their set which I think was called A Thousand Victories! Memorable tracks from the set also included Bang To Rights;Dark Night of the Soul and Bohemian Groove. Great night at The Masons with excellent live music all round.

You can catch World Vs World, Fat Wreck & The Frights on the road at The Duke, Neath Friday 17th and Saturday 18th March at Crowley Rock Bar, Swansea! Both gigs are free and start at 8pm.
