Q&A with Fallen Temples.

Who are Fallen Temples?

Who writes the lyrics and music?

The great thing about this band is that we’re all on the same page when it comes to what we want to sound like. So whether we jam something in a room collaboratively, or bring riffs, drum gooves, sometimes even whole songs from home, generally they all sound like they have come from the same place. Lyrically though, I tend to go and lock myself under the stairs and emerge when something is finished.

Can you tell the reader some interesting facts about the band?

We recorded the debut EP at the Boneyard in Neath without having a band name. Once we had the mixes back, we all sat in Stirland's garage drinking his home brew, throwing awful names back and forth, and then the chorus lyric from the Track ‘Eternal Drift’ (“Now that your temples have fallen”) jumped out, spoke to us and that became our name. Otherwise, myself and Joe Lewis have been playing music together for 10 years now, and both Joe’s are over 6ft 3, meaning that despite being 5ft10 I still look short next to those monsters.

What's the best and worst thing about being in a band?

The worst thing is definitely carting all the gear around! Up stairs in particular… The best thing has got to be that feeling the moment you’ve created something new that nobody else has ever heard, then that feeling is multiplied 2x when you actually perform that song in front of people and see the heads bobbing and the faces smiling, then 3x when you see people singing along with the lyrics! What would you consider to be Fallen Temples most memorable moment or greatest achievement so far?

We’ve only been around since late 2015 as Fallen Temples (we were previously called Tidal), but the standout moment has got to be performing at Planet Rockstock 2016 on the same bill as Black Stone Cherry, The Dead Daises, Steve Harris and Ricky Warwick. We’re really proud to be on the back of a festival t-shirt alongside all of these legend of rock past & present. Call you tell the reader about your debut EP The Future We Left Behind? ( fav tracks and why) All the songs on the EP, in different ways, are pretty much about drawing a line under everything thats been before and moving onward and upward. The guys at The Boneyard Studio really did a good job of capturing the energy, all the songs really get the blood pumping, particularly 'Cut the Wire' which was our first statement in the world. Best not listen to that when driving unless you've got a death wish though.

Where is your favourite venue to play live?

This was our first trip back to The Masons in four years (with Tidal), and I've got to say we always have a great time here. The people really are amazing and Kris who runs the venue really cares. Otherwise, there's a small festival in Mid Wales called Kingsfest and that is insane. Some guy got some teeth knocked out through over enthusiastic moshing last year. Do you have a favourite song to play live?

I think this always changes and you tend you like showing off your newest baby, but for me our lastest song 'Blood From Stone' is just huge. It's our slowest tempo song but its like a wall of riff, full of hooks and just makes bodies want to swing in unison. Can't wait to record that one, which hopefully shouldn't be too long. Do you have any advice for young musicians who are looking to form a band?

I'd say find people you really enjoying playing music with, and all have the same vision, then work towards that as a unit. If you all enjoy it, others should too. Anything else you want to add? Would be great if you could mention upcoming gigs and social media details. Upcoming gigs 27th May - Bulletfest 2017 in The Dolls House, Abertillery 28th May - Kingsfest 2017 in Llanidloes, Mid Wales You can find us online at www.fallentemples.com and our Twitter handle is @fallentemples
