Zed Motel Release New 3 Track EP

Garage rock three piece Zed Motel consisting of Katie Stilton on vocals; Chris Noir guitar and vocals and Jonathan Williams on drums have been busy recording a new EP. This week guitarist/vocalist Chris tells me a bit about the EP and where you can hear it.

It's a three track EP consisting of Black Square, Toledo and Tie Dye Who wrote the lyrics and music ?

The lyrics and music were all written by myself ( Chris Noir) but the songs were musically expanded upon and altered through playing them with the rest of the band, and live over the past year or so. Can you could tell us a bit about each track and what it's about ?

BLACK SQUARE – is probably the biggest, loudest song we have. It's got a big fuzz chorus, massive drum fills and vocal harmonies. Something for everyone . Lyrically, I like there to be a lot of ambiguity for the listener, but there is a bit ( partially unintentional) reference to the Kazimir Malevich painting of the same name. TOLEDO- is the ballad of the EP, if you could call it that. The verses strip back the guitar and drums to the bare minimum, giving the vocals room to breathe. I particularly enjoy the bridge part which kind of hits you with a whole new riff and vocal section out of nowhere. This could be about the city in Ohio or the car Seat make. I'll leave it up to you to decide! TIE DYE- had already been recorded previously, but this is a new edition of the song. Since Kate ( new vocalist) joined the band a few months ago, its totally changed our sound and dynamic and I felt it was right to include this reworking of the song and highlight that. One of my favourite Zed Motel songs and a fixture of our live sets. Where was EP recorded ? We recorded the EP with Jordan Huxtable ( of Heavy On The Ride) at his studio, The Red Walls. We all know Jordan already,which makes the recording process a lot more relaxed, and allowed us to get the sound we really wanted. Black Square was probably the hardest song to record. The drums were tough to nail and I recorded the guitar parts with a bad hangover! These sessions were also Katie's first time in the studio, so it was a learning curve but a very productive one at that. Where can we listen to the EP or buy a cd?
